Sweet things

Life's sweetest treasures need to be enjoyed whenever you can...

I don't often talk about my other life (i.e. my academic career), but... I've been recently told about an upcoming conference that I might be able to present in if I can finish an article I'm working on and get it approved in time.

Combine that with the pregnancy's final trimester, my husband working out of state, and taking time to enjoy these sweet last months with my oldest girl as an only, there has been little time for crafting.

I promise I'll share any crafting we end up doing. (^_^)

Goals and headbands, but not together }{ WIP Wednesdays

I'm sure many of you have read tips and advice for achieving success in your endeavors, right? Or am I the only one who seems to notice these things popping up everywhere?

Well, I do appreciate them and try to follow the ones that make sense to me and my context. One of these, probably the most common, suggests (actually it's more like commands) that we must make short term goals that lead to long term goals. They must be realistic and measurable goals with a deadline. That way you can keep yourself accountable to them - another well repeated tip.

Where am I going with this? I need to refocus my time on my goals. This blog is part of the picture, so this isn't a "I'm spending less time on this" kind of post. In fact, I use my blog to keep me accountable to my dreams. I have much respect for the written word, and once I write it down it's like a contract with myself. I don't want to write down exactly what I'm working on this summer because I think it may be too premature. But soon.

I need to rethink my strategies and stop being afraid of failure. I have this sign hanging on top of my craft space that says "a man is not finished when he's defeated; a man is finished when he quits." I need to take these words to heart.

I have less time now to work on my goals, what with the husband gone. Still, that does not mean I'm finished with them. I just need to adjust my strategy.

Enough rambling.

I've been working on headbands for N. because I love them and think little girls look adorable with them. I learned how to make this particular one from a tutorial on No Biggie, a blog I love. The only modification I made was to keep the squares open when making the scalloped edges, it just worked better for me with the materials I chose.

As you can see, N. refused to make normal faces today.  She wanted nothing to do with the camera today. I love this child.

How do you work towards your goals? How do you stay focused?

Here, but not here

Sorry everyone, I'm swamped.

I have to unplug for a week or so while I tend to work related projects. I'm still keeping up my resolution of working on something creative for at least 1/2 hr each day, but I don't always find the time to post it here.

What I miss the most? The connections I was forging. I miss you all. I hope to be back soon, hopping on over to your lovely blogs and seeing your friendly spaces.

Until then, here's a little peek at some sewing that's going on in my crafting room.

I hope you're all having a wonderful week, and I can't wait to be back full force. Xoxo

Slowing Down

I think I have to slow down a bit.

There's a lot going on at work and I just can't keep up with it all.

So I'm going to work on fewer craft projects at any one point in time. I'm working on a painting right now. Then it's off to sew for a bit. But that's it, everything else is on hold until the craziness at work is done.

I also haven't had as much time to stop by every blog I'd like to read... *sigh* I miss all the eye candy!

In my last post I shared the sketch for my fairy tale based piece. So today I want to show you how the actual piece came out.

How do you balance all that's on your to-do list? How do you decide what needs to give?

More Experiments

Saudade
Mas de que?

For the next week I will be pulling my hair out getting ready for the end of the semester at the university: papers to grade, research to write, statistical analysis to run...

And all I want to do is get my hands dirty with some paint, glue, glitter...

I have a half made Christmas stocking waiting for me on my sewing machine. I'm just dying to get back to it.

So come on brain! Just a little more effort, then we can have some fun.

How do you get things done? How do you push yourself?
